Three Healthy Summer Smoothie Recipes You Need To Try

Beach days, more daylight hours, holidays and great weather are just a few of the highlights summer brings with it every year, but one thing we LOVE about summer is all of the delicious fruits and veggies that are available, and what better way to absorb all of the nutrients that these foods offer than in a smoothie! Now there is an art to mastering your smoothie, but no need to worry as we have three of our tried and tasted FAVOURITE recipes below, enjoy!

THE GREEN MACHINE

Green smoothies are a great way to get your veggies (and fruit) intake up in one simple drink, and while they have been available at a number of cafes and health food stores for quite some time now, it takes a smoothie connisseur to make one that doesn’t taste like a cup of grass, and we think we have mastered it! NB: If you are a fan of virgin mojitos, you will LOVE this!

INGREDIENTS:

– I cup of coconut water (or just water if you prefer)

– The juice of half a lemon

– 2 stalks of Mint

– ½ cup of kale

– ¼ of a cucumber

– ½ a green apple

– Ice

METHOD:

Add all ingredients into a blender, and blend!

PIMP YOUR SMOOTHIE

‘Fruten up’ your green smoothie by adding melon or berries. Like your smoothie creamy? Try adding ½ an avocado, you won’t taste it but it will be sure to smoothen it up!

THE MAD MANGO

Summer is the perfect time to consume one of our favourite fruits, the mango, as they are in their prime this time of year. Another bonus if you enjoy going to the markets, you will tend to find this delicious fruit very reasonably priced as well, win-win! So, how do you make the ultimate Mad Mango smoothie? See below,

INGREDIENTS:

– 1 Mango peeled and cored

– 1 cup of coconut milk (or your choice of milk)

– 1 Banana

– Ice

METHOD:

Add all ingredients into a blender, and blend!

PIMP YOUR SMOOTHIE

Have a sweet tooth? Make your Mad Mango, ‘mango-licious’ by adding 1TBS of honey, 2 TBS of oats and ¼ cup of plain greek yoghurt.

THE BERRY BANG

There is no going past a delicious berry smoothie, but if you are going to make one yourself, you need to make it RIGHT! Here is how we do it;

INGREDIENTS:

– ¼ cup of blueberries

– ¼ cup of strawberries

– ¼ cup of raspberries

– 1 cup of almond milk (or your choice of milk)

– 1 TBS of honey

– Ice

– (optional frozen mixed berries in place of the fresh berries)

METHOD:

Add all ingredients into a blender, and blend!

PIMP YOUR SMOOTHIE

Take your Berry Bang Smoothie to the next level by adding 2 TBS of oats ,1 TBS of chia seeds, and 1 scoop of berry or vanilla protein. Adding these additional ingredients will make this smoothie a great post-workout snack, or breakfast!
