The lines that appear with a different color and texture than the skin are stretch marks. Their colors may vary from dark purple to light gray, and they feel a bit like a ridge on touch.
Stretch marks are very common after losing or gaining weight, or even after pregnancy.
Even though most people have them, these marks are not dangerous. Moreover, they might disappear in time. Furthermore, they can appear anywhere on the body like the breasts, buttocks, thighs, upper arms and stomach.
Causes of Stretch Marks
When the skin stretches very fast, like from an excessive and rapid weight gain or loss, lines appear. Such an example is the period after a rapid loss of weight. This can cause stretch marks on various parts of the body.
As a result, the middle layer of the skin tears and forms the stretch marks.
In addition, the deeper layer of the skin starts to show. Therefore, rapid skin growth causes the fibers in the skin to break and over-stretch, which in the end allows the blood vessels to pass and cause purple or red lines on the skin.
After some time, the blood vessels become paler. Thus, your stretch marks become whiter and less visible.
The most common times when these lines appear is when you get or lose weight too fast, during puberty, pregnancy, if you have health syndrome like Marfan Syndrome, if you used corticosteroid medication or if you have a family member with a history of stretch marks.
Therefore, most of the people around the world have, or will have stretch marks in the near future.
Treatments for Stretch Marks
Most of the common stretch marks don’t require special treatment because they can disappear on their own. However, there are cases where some women can’t completely get rid of these lines. Therefore, they try treatments like microdermabrasion, pulsed dye laser therapy, and creams.
Even though these treatments can prove useful, none of them can completely erase the stretch marks. Therefore, you can try these natural home remedies and see if they can help you out.
Sliced Lemons
Lemons have acidic properties which can be useful for removing stretch marks. All you have to do is cut some lemon slices and use them on the area where you have the most lines.
Let them rest for some time and repeat the same process until you see the desired results.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is known to help the skin rejuvenate faster and heal the skin cells. This is the reason why you can use Aloe Vera to treat stretch marks. However, for best results, try purchasing the plant and cut the leaves to extract the Aloe gel and apply it on the stretch marks.
